When God Speaks: How to Hear God's Voice

More Than an Ancient Book

It's tempting to think of the Bible as a dusty historical document, relevant to another time but distant from ours. Paul pushes back on that idea when he reminds Timothy of the sacred writings that are able to make him wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. The Bible was never meant to be admired from a distance, it was written to be lived.

What "God-Breathed" Actually Means

Paul's language is striking: "All Scripture is breathed out by God." That word "God-breathed" tells us Scripture didn't originate in human imagination, it carries the very breath and authority of God Himself, communicated through human writers in human language. That's why it remains useful for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness.

Every Road Leads to Jesus

One of the most important things we can do with the Bible is ask where it's pointing. Scripture isn't an end in itself; it's the road that leads us to Jesus. Every command, every promise, every story is ultimately making us wise for salvation through faith in Him. Missing that connection turns Bible reading into religious duty instead of an encounter with a Person.

Relationship, Not Religion

Hearing God's voice was never designed to be a mechanical exercise, checking a box, following a formula, decoding a hidden message. It's relational. God speaks through His Word the way a Father speaks to His children: to be known, to be near, and to be trusted. Reading Scripture as relationship rather than religion changes everything about how we approach it.

A Word That Transforms

Scripture doesn't just inform us, it equips us "for every good work." That's the goal: not simply gaining information about God, but being thoroughly equipped and transformed to live on mission for Him. When God's Word gets into us, it doesn't leave us the same.
